BABTA is happy to learn that the Marriott strike has been settled.  Workers are returning to work at the Westin St. Francis Hotel where the BABTA Gala will be held on 12 December. Attendees will not be faced with crossing a picket line.  We congratulate Marriott and the union for coming to an agreement.

The North Valley Community Foundation fund is going to support the needs of the evacuation centers who opened their doors to support the people who lost their homes and are fleeing the fire. These centers are very often not prepared to handle the massive influx of people but do it anyway. Our immediate funding priorities are to make sure they have whatever they need to continue providing these vital services. Once the immediate needs begin to get met and as we move out of a crisis situation, the fund will transition to supporting long-term recovery efforts. The money will ultimately go to supporting victims of the Camp Fire.

In the heart of San Francisco's Tenderloin neighborhood, Bay Area Women's and Children's Center is a unique presence. BAWCC focuses entirely on the needs and issues of low-income families, children, and women in this multi-ethnic, inner-city neighborhood. BAWCC offers a variety of direct services that address immediate needs as well as long-term stability. BAWCC also leads advocacy and planning work that has resulted in significant public policies and neighborhood institutions that have tangibly improved the daily lives of thousands of families, children, and women since 1981.
