2016 Scholarship winner Al Gilbert weighs in on the GBTA Convention and the BABTA scholarship opportunity . . . First and foremost, I wish to thank the Board and members of BABTA for the honor and opportunity to visit a GBTA convention under scholarship. I’ve been to many conventions over the years, but this is the first as a scholarship attendee, as opposed to a TMC employee. As a scholarship attendee, I had the time and freedom to take in many more seminars, and spend much more visiting trade show exhibitors, than previous years.
Since I am always interested in “disruptive innovation” I focused on the education sessions and sought out exhibitors that focus on the sharing economy and GDS alternative distribution channels for business travelers to access travel content – such as Uber, Lyft, Airbnb, Freebird, DUFL, and iCar. I encourage all BABTA members to take advantage of this wonderful scholarship opportunity reserved only for members in good standing.
