Dave Danby, Global Travel Manager for Bio-Rad has been a member of BABTA for 25 years and on the Board of Directors for 1 year. He has frequently provided his support and expertise to us whether part of a travel expert panel discussion on the dynamics of business travel or the shaping of BABTA via Board of Director discussions.

As part of GBTA's Chapter Challenge, all BTA chapters were tasked with raising donations to support the organization's Political Action Committee ( PAC). Our chapter not only raised donations, but we also offered an incentive trip thanks to the generous sponsorship of Virgin America and JDV Hotels. Held at the end of June this year, Dave represented BABTA along with our VP Government Affairs, Sarita Evans.

GBTA's annual two-day event brings together passionate professionals who want to advocate for the future of the business travel industry. It presents attendees the unique opportunity to:

Meet one-on-one with your Senators and Representative to share opinions and advocate for policies that support the business travel industry - Learn about Congressional debates with outcomes that will impact the business travel industry - Hear perspectives from Administration Officials and Members of Congress and Connect with other industry professionals who want
to make a difference.

The process itself encompasses groups of participants from all BTA chapters. In California, BABTA, SVBTA in addition to chapters from LA and San Diego attended this year. The groups divided into Northern and Southern California teams to then meet with the associated senate staff.

Dave said "This year was especially enjoyable as it seemed that the congressional staff who met with us were very prepared to talk about the issues that were of most interest to us" Senate staffers represented Dianne Feinstein, Eric Swallwell, Barbara Lee, Mike Thompson and Adam Schiff.

Legislative issues included The Aviation Security Cap and the JOLT initiative.

"Being part of this special opportunity is highly recommended to anyone who has an interest in learning more about how things get done. It can be a great eye opener to also better understand that our voices count and active participation is what will get our important industry issues addressed. I recommend more information to help on the 'Advocacy' tab of the GBTA website." He added that " It was interesting to get to walk through the Senate office building and also have the chance to prepare for our meetings as GBTA provided us with overviews and some role playing so that we could anticipate how the conversations would go. It was great to represent BABTA!"
